Ever since IBM's BlueGene Supercomputer was first introduced in 2004, it
has dominated the TOP500 (www.top500.org) Supercomputer list. Now in it's
second generation, BlueGene continues to enable researchers to expand their
science applications. IBM expects to continue setting the pace into the
next decade with plans for a third generation. This presentation will
provide an overview of BlueGene's conception, development, architecture,
and applications.
Roy Musselman
Mr. Musselman is working for IBM in Rochester, Minnesota as the BlueGene
performance team leader. He received a Bachelor of Science degree
Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1980 and a Master of
Computer Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 2005. He
began his employment with IBM at Endicott, New York in 1980, where he
worked as a logic designer and product engineer for mid-range computer
systems. From 1985 to 2005, Mr. Musselman was integrally involved with the
design and support of IBM's internal use of hardware simulation
accelerators and emulators. This included a two year temporary assignment
with Supercomputer Systems Inc. in Eau Clare, Wisconsin before transferring
to IBM in Rochester, Minnesota in 1992. Mr. Musselman has authored several
patents pertaining to hardware emulation and parallel communications.
