Since many people taking computer science classes have never been exposed to UNIX, Linux, or a similar operating system before, often a good portion of an introductory level course is spent learning how to work in a new computing environment. Many introductory classes have built-in crash courses for unix or linux and professors, instructors, and TAs are always willing to help students learn a new operating system, but sometimes websites may be difficult to navigate and people are not always available when you need them. This page provides an introduction to the Unix operating system, and specifically the systems at the University of Minnesota. This webpage is intended as a stand-alone introduction and covers several aspects of using Unix. If you find this useful, please tell me about it! Happy learning! |
